Cheap Holidays Rhodes
The largest of the Dodecanese islands, Rhodes enjoys more sunshine than anywhere else in Greece. With fertile green hills and miles of superb sand beaches, its sheltered position in the Aegean ensures an excellent climate.
This most cosmopolitan of Greece’s ‘big 4’ islands was under foreign control until 1943, which reflects the international connections of the past. Steeped in history, Rhodes has so much more to offer than just sunbathing.
The sophisticated Rhodes Town offers chic boutiques and restaurants, which provide a wide range of international and traditional cuisine. The old town is a revelation of history, with the stunningly preserved medieval walled city, Byzantine churches, pillars and mosques. Nearby Ixia is an excellent base to enjoy both the beach and Rhodes Town.
Along the west coast explore the mountainous landscape and don’t miss the excellent views across the Aegean Sea or visit the ancient city of Kamiros and ‘Petaloudes’, the valley of the butterfly. In contrast, the east coast is a paradise for the beach lover. With the beautiful and unique resort of Lindos, with it’s whitewashed buildings built around the Acropolis, the popular resort of Faliraki and the quieter villages such as Kalithea, Afandou, Haraki, Pefkos and Stegna, Rhodes appeals to a wide range of tastes and ages; offering traditional hotel holidays to simple village rooms and wild beach parties. It is easy to see why Rhodes is the premier Greek tourist island.
