Cheap Holidays Zante / Zakynthos

Set in the Ionian Sea, in the islands’ northwest corner, dramatic white cliffs tumble down to a turquoise sea. A patchwork plain of vineyards, fields and olive groves shelter small friendly resorts with sandy beaches.

Laganas is the biggest resort with a great nightlife and even better beach. Kalamaki, Laganas younger sister, shares the same golden stretch of beach but has developed at a slower pace.

Tsilivi can compete beachwise but has retained the small busy village atmosphere, whereas Alikes and Alikanas are sleepy backwaters with a charm all of their own. Argassi is an ever-popular village, with great watersports and lively nightlife, well placed between traditional Zante Town and quiet Vassilikos.

Zakynthos has all the ingredients of a great holiday, plenty of tavernas, restaurants, watersports, excursions, (such as Smugglers Cove, the Blue Caves or even a two day trip to Athens) lively discos and bars. The Venetians called Zakynthos the ‘Flower of the East’ and it’s still just as lovely today.

Unspoilt villages and mountainous areas are no distance, but beware the farmers holding you up with their tractors on the way to market or sheep meandering across the road, a reminder of old traditions and country ways.

Laganas, Kalamaki and Aghios Sostis are home to the Loggerhead turtle. The turtles lay their eggs at night along the Laganas Bay, where you will find conservation guidelines helping you to protect them.
